Codington County Sheriff Brad Howell paused the county's Flock camera program, and the physical cameras have been removed. Howell told KXLG on August 25, 2026 that cameras in the county were being vandalized and damaged, and that his office would investigate the damage as a criminal matter. He said the pause holds until more comes out from potential legislation in Pierre. The sheriff's office still uses automatic license plate readers mounted in patrol vehicles. On September 2, 2026 a Minnehaha County commissioner said in a public meeting that Codington County had taken its cameras down.
