Flock Decisions This Week: A Campus Walks, Conroe Tables the Question

2 decisions reached the tracker this week, and the campus records opened as a class of their own.

The decisions: UW-Madison let its Flock contract end June 26 and is removing all 8 campus cameras, after the Faculty Senate called for the exit in April; the department wants a different license plate reader vendor. Conroe, TX voted unanimously July 23 to table 2 proposals indefinitely: a citizens advisory committee on its Flock program and an attorney review of whether residents could vote on it.

The new class: campus police departments run their own Flock networks, and 4 were on the tracker on July 27, 2026: UW-Madison, UL Lafayette (50 cameras since April 2024), University of Louisville, and University of Kentucky, the last 2 mapped by Louisville Public Media in January.

Still open: Harrisonburg, VA votes July 28 on ending its contract; Park Ridge, IL held its final reading July 20 and no outlet has printed the outcome; Oklahoma City returns in August; Chandler, AZ August 13 and Fort Wayne, IN August 25 follow. The homepage clock counts each one down.

Why that week mattered

The week showed both ends of the range in the same 7 days. Extensions and expansions moved forward in some cities while others let contracts lapse, and the difference usually traced to who had to vote rather than to the technology. Contracts that need a public council vote face a public argument; contracts that arrive through procurement or a purchasing threshold often do not, which the no-one-voted explainer lays out.

What is scheduled next appears on the decision calendar, and every documented ending is listed in the cancellations ledger.

What a tabled item does and does not change in the ledger is explained in How to Read a Week of Flock Decisions.
