3 councils voted on Flock contracts this week, 4 more Michigan cities left the vendor, and 3 decisions were due in the next 2 weeks.
The votes: Cleveland, OH extended for 6 months on a 9-6 vote July 15, with all 6 no votes named on the record; Warren, MI renewed 4-3 on July 14 for a 2-year, $132,000 term, after 1 council member switched her June yes to a no; and Huntington, WV approved its first contract 6-4 on July 14 after a 7-hour meeting, with a resident lawsuit following the same week.
The departures: Detroit News reporting on July 14 lists 4 Michigan cities that decided not to renew: Westland, Milford, Ferndale, and Clawson. Ferndale’s council member said the city ended its contract after other agencies accessed its network with vague reasons.
The delays: Fort Wayne, IN held its renewal vote and moved it to August 25; Chandler, AZ pulled its renewal from the July 16 agenda and set August 13.
Ahead: Park Ridge, IL votes July 20, Oklahoma City takes up its renewal July 21, and Harrisonburg, VA plans a July 28 vote to end its contract. The homepage clock counts each one down.
Why that week mattered
3 councils reached 3 different answers in 4 days, which is the pattern the tracker was built to show. Cleveland bought time rather than deciding, cutting a 1-year request to 6 months while it looks for another vendor. Warren renewed by 1 vote after a member changed her position between meetings, which is how close these decisions often are. Huntington started a 5-year commitment the same week 4 Michigan cities were ending theirs.
Michigan is worth watching as a group rather than as separate cities. The Michigan case study tracks why the departures cluster there, and the cancellations ledger keeps the running list.
Why a vote tally reaches the public weeks before the names attached to it is explained in How to Read a Week of Flock Decisions.
