The Putnam County Commission voted on October 28, 2025 to issue a check for $24,000 to Flock Group Inc. for Flock Safety long range license plate readers for the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, drawn on account 40-980-4-59.0. Commissioner C. Brian Ellis moved and Commissioner Douglas Pierson seconded, and the minutes record that the motion carried unanimously with Commissioners Ellis, Pierson and R. Andrew Skidmore present. WSAZ reported the purchase covers 8 cameras under a two year contract at $24,000 a year. After residents objected in July 2026, Sheriff Bobby Eggleton said the cameras would not be switched on until further research and public education were done, and that no data was moving. WSAZ also found a gap between the 6 installations the sheriff described and a Flock email indicating a seventh.
