The Marion County Sheriff's Office operates 41 Flock Safety license plate reader cameras, according to an August 2026 report carried by the West Virginia Press Association and Mountain Media. The office said it chose a subscription arrangement instead of buying hardware, so Flock replaces cameras that are stolen or damaged rather than the county paying to replace them. Detective Matt Pigott said plate data is held for 30 days, access is limited to investigative personnel, and every search requires a stated reason entered into the system before it runs. Pigott described a 30 day audit cycle and said access runs through a virtual private network login plus two factor authentication, with data held in cloud systems meeting FBI Criminal Justice Information Services standards. The reporting gives no purchase date, no approving body, no dollar total and no term length, and a review of the Marion County Commission agenda and minutes index did not surface a document naming the purchase.
