The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office suspended its Flock Safety license plate reader program on Friday, September 4, 2026, effective immediately. The office said Flock released bulk search data in response to public records requests filed in other states whose records laws differ from Wisconsin standards, and that those releases were made without the county's knowledge or consent. Neenah, Menasha, Fox Crossing, Winneconne and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh police suspended their Flock services the same day. The sheriff's office said it is running an internal review to determine whether any of its investigations were affected and is evaluating internal security measures while gathering information from partner agencies. All Flock services stay suspended pending those discussions. Oshkosh police had already canceled a Flock contract earlier in 2026, and Omro never had one. Neither source names the sheriff, the number of readers, the contract amount, the term, the approving body, or any retention or audit condition.
