Mayor Mike Wiza announced on September 4, 2026 that Stevens Point would suspend data collection from all Flock cameras effective September 8, 2026, and that staff would enclose the units in covers so they could not see or collect data. Wausau Pilot and Review reported the city ran 10 Flock cameras at an annual cost of $27,500. Wiza said the city would explore termination of the contract. He pointed to allegations raised by the City of Sheboygan about how collected data is shared and managed, and to reports of municipal and state employees misusing access elsewhere. He also cited Florida removing the cameras from state highways. Wiza said in the same statement that taking away tools proven to solve crimes and find missing people does a disservice to the community. No council vote on termination had been recorded as of September 9, 2026.
