Mayor Austin Hammond ordered every Flock camera in Menasha bagged by the end of business on September 1, 2026, saying there is a great and genuine concern about privacy and how the data is accessed and shared. Menasha police joined the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office in suspending Flock use on September 4, 2026 after search records held by agencies in other states were released through open records requests. On September 8, 2026 the Common Council voted 7 to 1 to sever ties with Flock Safety, with Alderperson Tom Marshall casting the only vote against. WBAY reported the city served Flock a 30 day notice and expected the contract to end later in September 2026. The city shut off officer and employee accounts so nobody could search the system, and said the service was already paid through the end of the year with funding stopping in the next budget cycle. A former Menasha police officer was convicted of using Flock to track an ex girlfriend and sentenced to 6 months in jail. No contract amount or camera count appears in the city statements or the coverage reviewed.

This decision already happened in public; the record and its sources are above. If the community revisits the question, that decision would follow the same public process: a noticed meeting, public comment, and a recorded outcome, all through official channels.
