Who approved this?
Approved 7-0 by McFarland Village Board on December 9, 2025.
The McFarland Village Board voted 7 to 0 on December 9, 2025 to approve automated license plate reader technology for the McFarland Police Department along with a departmental policy on its use. Trustee Luke Fessler moved and Trustee Miguel Peña seconded, and the board recorded the vote by acclamation. The board conditioned the approval on the Village Board signing off on camera placements and on any change to the ALPR policy returning through the Public Safety Committee and the Village Board. The Public Safety Committee had recommended the policy 5 to 0 on December 1, 2025, after member Miguel Peña met with Interim Chief Redman about privacy concerns. The ALPR policy attached to that committee packet states that ALPR data in the Flock system is kept for 30 days and then removed automatically, and that sentence is the only place in the documents that names the vendor. Resident Tom Mooney spoke against the technology during public comment, and neither the agenda nor the minutes states a dollar amount, a camera count or a contract term.
