Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt and 4 municipal police chiefs signed a joint statement on September 4, 2026 discontinuing all Flock Safety products in use across Fond du Lac County, effective immediately. The chiefs were Aaron Goldstein of Fond du Lac, Jeremy Rasch of Waupun, Bill Wallner of Ripon and Pete Vergos of North Fond du Lac. Search capability was switched off and lens covers were installed so the cameras could not capture images. The agencies said search data, including records tied to active investigations, had been disclosed publicly by law enforcement agencies in other states answering open records requests. Their statement said the loss of control over investigative data, combined with how far Flock technology had expanded past traditional plate reading, made continuing the program inappropriate. The announcement landed the same day the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office suspended its own system. No camera count or contract amount appears in the joint statement or the coverage reviewed.
Use suspended
Camera use is suspended. The contract itself has not been reported terminated.
