Chetek police installed 2 Flock cameras in late May 2026 without a council vote and without telling the mayor. Mayor Jeff Martin told WEAU that the chief put them up without informing him or any of the council, and added that Chief Ron Ambrozaitis has the right because it is part of his operating budget. No dollar amount for the cameras has been disclosed in the reporting reviewed here, and no contract term or end date is on the public record. Ambrozaitis stood by the decision and had an outburst over public criticism at a city council meeting in July 2026, which he later apologized for. The city deactivated its Facebook page in August 2026 after what it called recent threats against city employees and said it had enlisted additional law enforcement resources.
