Sunnyside, WA Flock Contract

Who approved this?

No source names who approved this contract. That gap is common where a purchase cleared without a council vote.

Sunnyside installed Flock cameras in 2023, and the Yakima Herald-Republic reported that the first year of the program was funded by American Rescue Plan Act money received by Yakima County. The city now holds a contract for 39 stationary cameras at about $102,000 a year running through 2028. On August 26, 2026 the council voted 6 to 1 to cancel a separate two year, $48,000 contract for a moveable camera trailer. Mayor Vicky Frausto and council members Tom Dolan, Leticia Zesati, Ramon Chavez, Keren Vazquez and Jorge Galvan voted to cancel, and Deputy Mayor Julia Hart voted against. Dolan said the council was put there by constituents who voiced their opinion that night, and Frausto pointed to city deficits. Apple Valley News Now reported 36 stationary cameras and a cost of more than $100,000 a year, which does not match the Herald-Republic's 39 cameras and $102,000. Interim City Manager Pat Haley said the trailer contract was up for its second year renewal and the council voted not to approve the continuation.
