Who approved this?
No source names who approved this contract yet. Contracts that arrive through procurement or a purchasing threshold often leave no vote to record.
Renton police installed 24 Flock Falcon cameras at intersections and roadways across the city, and the department's transparency page states the data is deleted after 21 days as required by Washington state law. The council voted 4-3 on May 4, 2026 to pause every automated license plate reader system in the city, then voted 4-1 on August 3, 2026 to physically cover the Flock cameras. On August 10, 2026 a motion not to renew the contract failed, with Carmen Rivera and Kim-Khanh Van voting for it, and a motion to switch the cameras back on also failed after Councilmember Prince changed his vote. The Renton Reporter reports the contract was written in 2024 and expires in November 2026, and the council directed the administration to hold a town hall before deciding on renewal. The department audits reader activity twice each month and reports annually to the state Attorney General under Senate Bill 6002. The city page states federal and out-of-state agencies cannot access Renton data. No cited document gives a dollar figure for the Renton Flock contract.
