Approved by Kent City Council on February 18, 2025.
The Kent City Council voted unanimously on February 18, 2025 to renew the city agreement with Flock Group Inc. The renewal runs about $77,000 a year and covers 20 cameras. Kent Police began using Flock cameras in January 2023, when the first year cost $73,767 and a $32,000 Washington Auto Theft Prevention Authority grant offset part of that. The second year cost about $50,692. The city pays for the cameras from red light camera program revenue rather than the general fund, which is why the funding term is recorded as Unknown. In October 2025 Chief Rafael Padilla turned off national data sharing, limited access to Washington agencies, and required officers to route federal requests through a commander. The agreement renews annually, so no fixed end date is recorded. Both sources come from the same newsroom because the city council agenda system and the police department pages returned no Flock record, and no roll call by name was published.
