The Auburn Police Department has used Flock Safety readers since a partnership that began in August 2024 and had 37 cameras deployed as of July 2026, the Auburn Reporter reported. The department's own page links to its Flock transparency portal for Auburn WA PD. Police Chief Mark Caillier told the council the department uses the technology only for legitimate public safety purposes while protecting privacy and civil liberties. Plate data is held 21 days, the ceiling Washington Senate Bill 6002 set when it was signed on March 30, 2026, along with a bar on immigration use and a 2 year audit trail requirement. Residents at the July 20, 2026 council meeting asked for an independent third party audit, and speaker Deborah Townsend objected that the city pays Flock to run continuous surveillance on residents and neighbors. No council vote was recorded at that meeting and no decision date was announced. No contract amount, term length, renewal date or funding source appears in either source. Auburn, New York, a different city, voted to end its Flock contract in August 2026.
