The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office installed 4 Flock Safety cameras in early August 2026, WMRA reported on August 12, 2026. Records released under Virginia FOIA showed the sheriff's office dealt directly with Flock and that no county board vote preceded the installation. Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson called the cameras a tool to aid law enforcement and public safety and said one helped locate an abducted pregnant woman within 8 minutes. WHSV reported on July 21, 2026 that Rockingham County was among the Shenandoah Valley agencies whose Flock cameras figured in a manhunt, alongside the Page County Sheriff's Office and the Shenandoah Police Department. The installations came in the same weeks that Harrisonburg moved to end its contract and Elkton voted to pull its cameras out. Code of Virginia 2.2-5517 caps law enforcement plate data retention at 21 days. No contract amount, term length, renewal date or funding source is published in either report.
