Lynchburg City Council passed a resolution on September 3, 2026 directing the city manager to give Flock Safety official notice that the company will no longer operate in the city. WSLS and Cardinal News both report the tally as 6 to 0 with Vice Mayor Curt Diemer absent, while WSET reports the same resolution passing 6 to 1 with Diemer absent, and no single tally is given here. The city's 15 fixed license plate cameras have been offline since August 19, 2026. The gunshot detection count also differs by source, with Cardinal News reporting 54 devices and WSET reporting 55. Council member Chris Faraldi said the resolution means the city is not sending a single penny more to Flock. The city attorney raised a possible $35,000 early termination fee, and the resolution as adopted leaves equipment in place until the agreement expires in April 2027. Council member Marty Misjuns filed a competing resolution to force removal by October 2026, set for the council's next meeting on September 8, 2026.
