Elkton Town Council voted 5 to 0 on July 20, 2026 to cut ties with Flock Safety, with Councilwoman Rachel Michael not present. Augusta Free Press reports the amendment was moved by Councilman Napotnik and seconded by Councilman Fulginiti. The same account states that the Elkton Police Department made the first contact with Flock and that the town manager signed the 2024 agreement without a council vote and without public notice. About 75 residents attended the July meeting, and the opposition group says it spent more than $800 on public records requests to obtain program details. Sergeant Insana presented the department's case to council and described the system as a legal tool. The Augusta Free Press piece was written by the founder of the group that organized against the cameras, so it is an interested account. Camera counts, the contract price and a removal schedule are not stated in either source.

What happens next
This decision already happened in public; the record and its sources are above. If the community revisits the question, that decision would follow the same public process: a noticed meeting, public comment, and a recorded outcome, all through official channels.
