No source names who approved this contract yet. Contracts that arrive through procurement or a purchasing threshold often leave no vote to record.
Christiansburg Town Council voted 6 to 0 on August 25, 2026 to terminate the town's Flock Safety agreement and take down 6 police cameras. Cardinal News put the deal at $18,500 a year, signed in 2024, with $10,000 reimbursed through a Virginia State Police grant, and WDBJ7 described it as a two year contract with about $18,000 in spending the town will not recover. Fourteen residents spoke before the vote and all of them opposed the cameras. Police Chief Chris Ramsey defended the system as an effective investigative tool, then told WDBJ7 that none of that is worth sacrificing the integrity of the agency. Councilwoman Kim Bowman made the motion to remove the cameras. The town's own council minutes from June 24, 2025 record only a presentation by Ramsey on the program with no motion, vote or dollar figure, so the original approval vote and its tally are not documented. Physical removal had not been scheduled as of August 26, 2026, though account shutdown was already underway.
