The Patriot Talon, the student newspaper at the University of Texas at Tyler, obtained financial records under the Texas Public Information Act and reported on July 14, 2026 that the UT Tyler Police Department has bought from Flock Safety since 2021. The records show 2 Falcon cameras in 2021 at 2,500 dollars each plus a 500 dollar implementation fee, a 2024 purchase of cameras and software at 25,000 dollars with a 5,000 dollar annual fee, and a 2026 purchase of 6,000 dollars for cameras covering off campus housing. An amendment extended a prior agreement from 2023 to 2028. The university declined to comment and directed questions to the public information request process. The article does not give a running camera total, an exact contract end date, a funding line or any board action by the University of Texas System Board of Regents.
