The Murfreesboro Pulse reported in August 2026 that the police department operates 106 Flock license plate readers. The original agreement took effect August 1, 2025 and covered 15 cameras at 128,250 dollars over three years, or 42,750 dollars a year. An amendment effective September 19, 2025 added 17 standalone readers, 8 dual camera bundles, 1 combined reader and video unit, 23 pan tilt zoom cameras and 2 fixed video cameras, priced at 195,515.10 dollars in year one and 161,158.80 dollars in each of years two and three. The Pulse put the combined three year total at 646,082.70 dollars, purchased through Omnia Partners cooperative contract number R250203. Images are deleted after 30 days, Tennessee law permits storage up to 90 days outside an active investigation, and the department runs quarterly internal audits whose logs are public records. WSMV reported that the city council renewed the contract in June 2026 for more than 240,000 dollars, and that on August 14, 2026 the council declined a resident request to withdraw, with Councilmember Austin Maxwell speaking in support. Real Time Crime Center supervisor Ryan Lawrence said the department does not sell the data or share it outside law enforcement. No council vote date or tally for the original 2025 agreement or the June 2026 renewal is documented in either source.
