Kingston signed with Flock Safety in 2024 on a trial basis to test whether the cameras earned their keep. The agreement covered 2 cameras and totaled $12,300 across the full 2 year term, a single figure for the whole contract rather than a year one amount. City Manager David Bolling said in August 2026 that the city would let the agreement run out in September 2026 without renewing it. Bolling said the benefit did not justify the cost, noting only a few instances where the cameras helped. Mayor Tim Neal said the money would do more good elsewhere in the police department. Officials framed the choice as financial rather than a response to the privacy fight running through Tennessee at the time. No record of a city council vote approving the 2024 signing was located.
