The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina uses Flock automated license plate readers, reported by FOX Carolina on July 23, 2026 in a survey of Upstate law enforcement agencies. The Greenville Journal also listed the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office among Upstate agencies running Flock systems. Neither report gives a camera count, a dollar figure, a contract term or an approval date for the county. The Greenville Journal counted more than 400 active automated license plate reader cameras across the Upstate and broke out only the Greenville Police Department total of 57 fixed cameras. No Spartanburg County Council vote, ordinance, budget line or purchase order for the cameras has been found in a public record. Flock told agencies in August 2026 that retention would drop from 30 days to 7 days and that searches would require a case number, and no Spartanburg County policy adopting those terms appears in any document located.
Renewal date pending
The contract end date has not yet been confirmed from records.
Not yet in the sources: the contract amount, the camera count, and the approval date. The city or county clerk holds the approval file, and the records request guide gives the wording to ask for it. If you already hold the document, send it in.
What happens next
Renewals are decided in public. Residents can attend the meeting, speak during public comment, and write to the office above through official channels. The ACLU publishes a model cancellation resolution officials can adapt.
