The Simpsonville Police Department in Greenville County, South Carolina uses Flock automated license plate readers, named by FOX Carolina on July 23, 2026 among county departments running the cameras. The Greenville Journal reported on August 26, 2026 that Police Chief Michael Hanshaw briefed City Council at its August 25, 2026 meeting on how the department controls plate searches. Hanshaw said the department requires a case number or detailed investigative notes before a tag is looked up, that the system flags repeat runs of the same tag to an administrative officer, and that audits run once or twice a week. He said the city plans to add more administrative designees so that one person does not audit alone, and that the system is not used to search vehicles during traffic stops. City Administrator Tee Coker and City Clerk Justin Campbell also took part in the meeting. Council recorded no vote on the cameras that night, and no camera count, purchase price, contract term, end date or funding source appears in the coverage or in any city document found.
