The Pickens County Sheriff's Office operates Flock Safety license plate readers and keeps camera files for 30 days, FOX Carolina reported on July 23, 2026. The office was then building a transparency tool so residents could review how it uses the cameras. The Greenville Journal listed Pickens County among the Upstate sheriff's offices running Flock cameras in its account of local governments weighing restrictions. Sheriff Tommy Blankenship told the Post and Courier for its August 17, 2026 report that he would take the cameras down himself if he were shown factual evidence that the federal government was misusing them against innocent residents. The Post and Courier counted 536 automated license plate readers across the Upstate without breaking out a Pickens County figure. None of the three accounts reported a camera count, a contract amount, a term length, a funding source, or a Pickens County Council vote approving the cameras.
Renewal date pending
The contract end date has not yet been confirmed from records.
Not yet in the sources: the contract amount, the camera count, and the approval date. The city or county clerk holds the approval file, and the records request guide gives the wording to ask for it. If you already hold the document, send it in.
What happens next
Renewals are decided in public. Residents can attend the meeting, speak during public comment, and write to the office above through official channels. The ACLU publishes a model cancellation resolution officials can adapt.
