The Greenville County Sheriff's Office runs Flock Safety license plate readers and used the system during a January 2024 homicide investigation to track a suspect across county lines, FOX Carolina reported on July 23, 2026. The Greenville Journal listed the sheriff's office among Upstate agencies using the cameras while local governments considered limits. The Post and Courier reported on August 17, 2026 that 5 law enforcement employees in the Greenville area were fired over camera misuse during the summer of 2026, and that the South Carolina Sheriff's Association said residents deserve both safety in their communities and responsible use of police authority. Two of those firings were deputies dismissed after an audit of Flock searches, and the sheriff's office did not disclose what the deputies had done. The count of 57 cameras reported in this coverage belongs to the Greenville city police department and not to the sheriff's office. No contract amount, term length, funding source, retention period, or Greenville County Council vote approving the sheriff's cameras was reported.
