The Florence Police Department used $397,500 in state funding for its first 30 Flock cameras on a 4-year contract, WPDE reported on January 19, 2024. Those 30 went up around March 2024, and by January 2026 the city had contracts for 66 cameras, about 52 installed, after spending roughly $330,000 on added cameras, Interim Police Chief Stephen Starling told The Post and Courier. In June 2026 the city signed a 10-year, $4 million contract with Flock Safety for 9 pan-tilt-zoom cameras, 11 stationary cameras, 2 mobile security trailers and 10 community cameras. City Manager Scotty Davis signed it without a Florence City Council vote, after the Safe City Subscription came up at a January work retreat and an April work session. The city may cancel without penalty if the council or the police department stops funding the program. No document found states the signing date, the fund that pays for the 2026 contract or how many of its cameras read license plates.
