The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has had Flock cameras near its main headquarters building and its support services building for several years, spokesman Kyle McGahee told the SC Daily Gazette for a September 11, 2026 report. The agency, which includes the state Highway Patrol and Statehouse security officers, was then in the process of potentially renewing its contract for those readers. McGahee said the readers photograph only the plates of cars entering and exiting the headquarters campus. He said authorized staff can use the Flock network for investigations. No document found gives the original contract date, the amount, the camera count, the term or who approved the contract. No later report found says whether the renewal went through.
