Who approved this?
Approved by Lincoln Town Council on June 16, 2026.
The Lincoln Town Council took up the Flock Safety agreement at its June 16, 2026 meeting, and installation of 12 cameras was set to begin July 1, 2026 under a $45,400 contract with the town. Town Administrator Phil Gould announced on August 13, 2026 that Lincoln was pausing the program with only 1 of the 12 cameras installed. Gould said the town started down this road to give police a tool to protect and serve residents and now had to be sure the tool was not doing the community a disservice. The pause followed a lawsuit in neighboring Cumberland alleging a false arrest tied to a Flock misidentification. Police leadership attended a roundtable in Connecticut on safety standards and protocols while the town completes its review. Rhode Island Current reported on August 18, 2026 that Lincoln had paused 12 approved camera installations. Governor Dan McKee ordered a state review and urged Rhode Island cities and towns to pause installations in August 2026. No vote tally on the original approval appears in the coverage reviewed.
