Who approved this?
Approved by Washington City Council.
Washington City Council entered a no cost, one year trial agreement with Flock Safety in June 2026 to test license plate reader cameras at 4 intersections across the city, the Observer-Reporter reported on September 5, 2026. Axios Pittsburgh reported on August 21, 2026 that the council approved the one year trial as opposition to the cameras spread across the Pittsburgh region. Neither report gives the exact June meeting date, a vote tally or the names of the council members who voted. The trial carries no cost to the city, so no funding source is named. On September 4, 2026 the same council approved a separate camera contract with Dave Davis Communications of Finleyville covering 3 playgrounds, at $42,550 up front plus $1,134 a month for cellular modems, which is not Flock equipment. No retention period, sharing limit, audit requirement or public reporting condition appears in either report.
