The University of Toledo reported on October 18, 2023 that its police department was installing 30 Flock Safety cameras, 19 on Main Campus and 11 on the Health Science Campus, at campus entrances and exits. The university said the system was paid for with a 114,240 dollar grant awarded in November 2022 by the Ohio Department of Public Safety through the Ohio School Safety Center, and that the cameras were expected to be running by the end of October 2023. Police Chief Rodney Theis said the work was meant to keep students, faculty and staff safe. The university added plate reading cameras to patrol vehicles in June 2023. The release does not give a retention period or a contract term.
