Hamilton is keeping its Flock Safety license plate readers while residents press the city to drop them, the Journal-News reported on August 20, 2026. About two dozen protesters gathered on August 19, 2026 at High Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and asked the city to end its license plate reader contracts immediately. Hamilton Police said the system holds data for 30 days and captures a still photo of the plate, a basic description of the car, and the time and location, and said it does not record video, track drivers or use facial recognition. The department said access is restricted and that oversight logs record searches. WVXU reported on August 19, 2026 that the Hamilton protest took place outside the Butler County government building in the same week Oxford City Council voted 6 to 1 to end its own Flock contract. The Ohio Newsroom reported on September 2, 2026 that Hamilton would keep its cameras despite the protests. Two cameras were cut down in nearby Hanover Township on July 31, 2026. No camera count, contract value, term length, approval date or council vote for Hamilton appears in any of these reports. This is Hamilton in Butler County, Ohio.
