Who approved this?
Approved by Dayton Board of Education.
Dayton Public Schools runs Flock Safety cameras at 27 buildings under a contract the Dayton Board of Education approved in December 2025 for 162,000 dollars. The Dayton Daily News reported that December vote was 4 to 2, with Eric Walker and Jocelyn Rhynard against, and that Jamica Garrison had not yet joined the board. In June 2026 the board took up a resolution to stop using the cameras and turned it down 4 to 2. Board president William Bailey, vice president Joe Lacey, Chrisondra Goodwine and Will Smith voted against the resolution, Walker and Garrison voted for it, and Rhynard was absent. Walker said he did not want families subject to immigration enforcement. WYSO reported on September 3, 2026 that Superintendent David Lawrence said access to the system is limited to authorized staff with monitored activity logs, that the district does not receive vehicle owner or immigration status data, and that outside agencies must ask in writing. The district was still writing a formal policy for the cameras at that point. The reporting does not give the exact December meeting date, a camera count, the contract term or the funding line.
