Who approved this?
Approved by Cleveland Metropolitan School District school board.
Cleveland Metropolitan School District runs 201 Flock Safety license plate readers at about 70 school buildings, generally one at each entrance and one at each exit. Signal Cleveland reported on June 11, 2026 that the district pays 603,000 dollars a year for the cameras and for the software subscription that stores and manages the data. The school board first approved the contract in 2023, when state money for security system upgrades covered the cost. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year the district started paying with its own funds. The agreement was set to expire in mid-July 2026. A community group calling itself Flock No CLE demanded on August 30, 2026 that the district end the contract, and 19 News reported the district had not answered questions about whether it would.
