University at Buffalo, NY Flock Contract

Pending first vote

University Police at the University at Buffalo proposed a 60 day trial of 20 solar powered Flock Safety license plate readers at entrances and exits on the North and South campuses. The plan was announced on September 3, 2026, and UB Facilities had not signed off because the installation details were incomplete. Police Chief Kimberly Beaty said the cameras would give investigators a better tool for vehicle crimes such as theft, larceny and hit and run. The university says it will opt out of Flock's national database and delete most data after 7 days, citing New York State limits on assisting immigration enforcement. No cost, funding source or start date has been released, and conversations about the pilot began in summer 2025.
