The Town of Tonawanda is ending its Flock contract and moving to Axon license plate readers. Investigative Post reported on July 17, 2026 that the town runs 13 Flock cameras, has spent 45,000 dollars since early 2025, shares data with 65 departments and can reach 36 networks. WBEN reported on August 25, 2026 that the town has 12 Flock cameras and that the lease runs out at the end of 2026. The 2 camera counts differ; 13 is used because Investigative Post drew its figures from department records, and the 12 figure is noted. Town Supervisor John Flynn said the town is switching because Axon costs less than Flock and because of problems with Flock elsewhere, and he cited a Sheridan Drive bank robbery solved within 24 hours using the readers. The 45,000 dollars is reported spending since early 2025, not a stated contract value, so no contract amount is given. No vote date, tally or board member names for the switch appear in either report, and neither gives a retention period.
