No source names who approved this contract. That gap is common where a purchase cleared without a council vote.
Syracuse approved a Flock Safety contract in 2023 covering 26 license plate readers, of which only 13 were ever installed, with a term running to October 2027. The Common Council voted unanimously on November 24, 2025 to revoke permission for 2 camera sites near Syracuse University and tabled a separate vote on the citywide agreement. On February 9, 2026 the council approved a replacement contract with Axon Enterprise worth 422,636.28 dollars over 5 years for 26 readers. WRVO reported that February tally as 5 to 1 and Central Current reported it as 7 to 1, and both figures are named here because the sources disagree and neither published a full roll call. The council voted on March 23, 2026 to revoke Flock permission to operate on city streets and set a hardware removal deadline of May 26, 2026. Syracuse police unplugged the readers on June 19, 2026 and Flock took all 13 units out on July 14, 2026. A Flock legal officer said the agreement allowed termination only for material breach with a 30 day cure period. No source gives a dollar figure for the original Flock contract, and the Axon total is not shown because it belongs to a different vendor.
