Cheektowaga started with 10 Flock cameras in 2022 at 25,000 dollars a year and now runs 31, according to Investigative Post reporting by J. Dale Shoemaker on July 17, 2026. WKBW reported on June 10, 2026 that the town had 29 cameras mounted on utility poles at 3,000 dollars per camera per year and was weighing 2 more, which matches the later count of 31. The town board took no vote at its June 9, 2026 meeting and pushed the question to its June 24, 2026 meeting. Cheektowaga shares its camera data with 170 other police agencies across New York and bordering states and can reach more than 600 Flock networks. Flock representative Trevor Chandler told residents at the June 9 meeting that the cameras carry no facial recognition and are aimed at the rear of vehicles to read plates. Resident Rachel Martinez told the board that the lack of oversight of Flock puts residents privacy at risk. No total contract value, term length, contract end date, retention period or audit requirement is documented in either report, and no named roll call on any of the camera purchases has been published.
