Sparks chose not to renew its Flock Safety contract and moved its license plate reader program to Axon. This Is Reno counted 47 active Flock cameras in Sparks in July 2026. Police Chief Chris Crawforth told the council that Axon gives the city automatic purging of non-investigative data and sharing that is explicit, permission based and revocable. City Attorney Wes Duncan said Sparks released its Flock records to a public records requester because there was no legal basis to deny the request. Athar Haseebullah of the ACLU of Nevada said ending a Flock contract and awarding it to another reader company is a loss for the community. The state legislative interim Judiciary Committee voted in late August 2026 to request a reader bill draft for the 2027 session, which begins February 1. Neither report gives the Flock contract amount, the term length, or the date the agreement ended.
