Who approved this?
Approved by Oxford Board of Aldermen.
The Oxford Board of Aldermen voted to approve an agreement between the Oxford Police Department and Flock Safety giving officers access to license plate camera footage from the Grand Oaks subdivision, as reported by The Oxford Eagle on August 19, 2022. Chief Jeff McCutchen said the neighborhood shares data with the department and the department does not send data back. The paper did not print the meeting date, the vote tally or any dollar figure. By August 15, 2026 the same paper reported that the department runs about 15 Flock cameras across the city and holds the data for 30 days. Oxford records each officer search against 4 audit factors covering who logged in, the crime, the case number and the reason for the search. Lafayette County Sheriff East told the paper his agency runs 30 readers at about 15 locations under its own rules and audits. No city order form, purchase resolution or budget line was reachable, so the contract amount, term length and renewal terms are unknown. The state is confirmed as Mississippi because the reporting outlet covers Oxford, Lafayette County and the University of Mississippi, and Oxford Observer coverage of an Oxford city council vote was set aside as Oxford, Ohio.
