Who approved this?
No source names who approved this contract. That gap is common where a purchase cleared without a council vote.
Mayor Ryan Sabas told the Champlin City Council on August 24, 2026 that the city was operating no Flock cameras and that they had been taken down for the time being. Ward 4 resident Sam Mwangi asked the council that night for a town hall on data collection, retention, access rules and whether records could be shared with other agencies. Government Technology reported that Champlin planned to discuss its camera use after residents raised privacy concerns, and noted the city had used a plate reader in a high profile case involving state Senator John Hoffman. Vandalism against Flock cameras hit numerous Minnesota communities during 2026, with 8 damaged in Winona and 6 in Duluth in a single reported wave. No council vote on cancellation had been recorded as of September 9, 2026. No contract amount or camera count for Champlin appears in the coverage reviewed.
Use suspended
Camera use is suspended. The contract itself has not been reported terminated.
Not yet in the sources: the contract amount, the camera count, and the approval date. Champlin City Council holds the approval file, and the records request guide gives the wording to ask for it. If you already hold the document, send it in.
