York has four Flock Safety license plate readers, two on Shore Road and two on Route 1, according to the Portland Press Herald. The Select Board voted 5 to 0 on September 2, 2026 to send a proposed ban on the cameras to the town referendum on November 3, 2026. The question reached the board through a Stop ALPRs citizens petition signed by around 115 residents. Two more readers sit at Maine Turnpike toll booths and two at the Cliff House Hotel, which the Press Herald reports are operated by law enforcement. The Cliff House general manager said hotel management does not receive reports of what the scanners capture. No document reviewed states the cost of York's Flock cameras, the contract length, the approving body or the original approval date.
