The Town of Hopkinton formally notified Flock Safety on August 20, 2026 that it was terminating the contract, effective immediately, after a legal review by town counsel found statutory deficiencies that make the agreement unlawful under Massachusetts law. Town Manager Elaine Lazarus said municipal contracts must comply with procurement law and that it is the town's duty to meet those standards. Two cameras were installed, one on Hayden Rowe Street and one on West Main Street near Interstate 495, and 2 more had been planned. The town asked Flock to deactivate the cameras as soon as possible and to remove them by September 30, 2026. CBS Boston reported the cancellation on August 21, 2026 and quoted Select Board Chair Shahidul Mannan. Interim Police Chief Scott van Raalten said the department began looking into the technology about a year and a half earlier. No source names the specific procurement statute, the contract amount, the contract term or the funding source.
