Approved by Groton Select Board on May 18, 2026.
Town Manager Mark Haddad and Police Chief Michael Luth announced on August 31, 2026 that Groton would terminate its Flock Safety camera contract, effective immediately. Luth said the cameras have been a genuinely valuable tool for officers and have helped solve real cases. Haddad called the move a decision to slow down, do this right, and come back to Town Meeting with a solution that the community can have real confidence in. The Select Board had voted 4 to 1 at its May 18, 2026 meeting to let the license plate reader program continue into fiscal year 2027, despite a Town Meeting vote taken two weeks earlier. A Police Camera Working Group will bring a recommendation to the Spring 2027 Town Meeting for voters to decide. The town press release and the Groton Herald report do not state the contract amount, the number of cameras, the contract term or the funding source, and no source names how each Select Board member voted in May.

What happens next
This decision already happened in public; the record and its sources are above. If the community revisits the question, that decision would follow the same public process: a noticed meeting, public comment, and a recorded outcome, all through official channels.
