Dartmouth Police Chief Brian Levesque announced the town will not renew its Flock Safety contract, which runs to September 29, 2026. The department used 5 fixed roadside cameras plus 1 portable unit, and the mobile camera's contract had already lapsed. The program began in mid 2023 and cost roughly $20,000 a year, the approximate figure shown here. Levesque cited privacy and cost, and said his concerns revolve around privacy issues and security issues with being able to access some of this information without the right authorization. Officers shared data with nearby departments only on request and access was limited to a small group of detectives. No misconduct by Dartmouth officers has been reported in connection with the system. Residents raised objections at Select Board meetings, but no Select Board vote authorizing or ending the program has been published.
