Boston police ran a 90 day pilot with Flock Safety in which they deployed 45 cameras, and the department did not extend it. The ACLU of Massachusetts dates the decision not to continue to September 2025. The Boston Globe reported on August 27, 2026 that officials gave no reason at the time for letting the pilot lapse. The Globe also reported that the department has since run pilots with 2 competitors, Motorola Solutions starting in January 2026 and Axon starting in June 2026. In a separate story the Globe reported that the department negotiated modified contract terms restricting Flock's rights to disclose data. No contract amount, funding source, retention period or approving body has been made public for the Flock pilot. The Globe reported that at least 19 Massachusetts municipalities had opted out of Flock contracts as of late August 2026.
