Canceled
Who approved this?
No source names who approved this contract. That gap is common where a purchase cleared without a council vote.
Abington Police Chief John Bonney said the department stopped using its Flock Safety cameras. Boston.com reported the decision on September 1, 2026 and Boston 25 News reported it on September 2, 2026 alongside Ayer and Southbridge. Bonney said officers understand that being a successful police department is not simply about having the most tools or the newest technology, and that the work is about maintaining the trust and confidence of the people we serve. Boston 25 News reported that officers questioned whether keeping the cameras justified the cost to public trust. On August 21, 2026 the town posted a notice that Town Manager Michael Maresco and Chief Bonney would take resident questions covering storage and security of the information, how long it is kept, and auditing and penalties for misuse. None of these documents state the contract amount, the number of cameras, the contract term or the funding source, and none records a Select Board vote.
