L'Observateur reported on July 17, 2026 that the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office runs 50 Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras, which it called the third largest deployment in Louisiana behind Kenner Police with 55 and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office with 54. WVUE Fox 8 published the same count of 50 on August 12, 2026 in a survey of New Orleans metro agencies. Flock told L'Observateur that the cameras do not use facial recognition and that plate data is deleted after 30 days unless it is held for a legal reason, which is a vendor statement and not a written parish policy. Neither outlet obtained an order form, a purchase price or a named funding source. No St. John the Baptist Parish Council vote, ordinance or resolution authorizing the cameras was located, and Louisiana sheriffs buy equipment from their own budgets rather than through a council. Contract term, renewal date, audit terms and any data sharing conditions remain undocumented.
