Police Captain Kevin Drohan said keeping them after the pilot would cost 3,000 dollars per camera per year, that no money had been set aside, and that drug forfeiture money would be used if the city bought them. He said the Newport City Commission would decide whether to go beyond the trial. On July 14, 2026 LINK nky reported that the city would remove the cameras and end the pilot, and Assistant City Manager Brian Steffen said removal should come within about a week. The articles do not say who approved the pilot, and no commission vote on a purchase is reported.
