The Morehead Minute reported on June 23, 2026 that records the City of Morehead released under an open records request show 13 Flock Safety cameras in the city, used by the Morehead Police Department. The records include a 2024 invoice for 18,000 dollars for 6 Flock Safety Falcon cameras, a 2025 invoice for 21,000 dollars covering 6 new cameras and 1 video camera, and a 2026 invoice for 18,000 dollars to renew 6 cameras. On October 9, 2023 the Morehead City Council approved Municipal Order No. 14:2023, which added a license plate reader policy to the police department's operating procedures. Yvonne Baldwin, Jan Bishop, Beth Ousley, David Perkins and Edna Schack voted yes and Lincoln Caudill voted no. The policy keeps plate data for up to 30 days unless Kentucky records schedules require longer, and a data sharing list in the release names 2,849 organizations. The city identified no grant or outside funding, and the article does not report a council vote on the camera purchases themselves.
